What do I do if I get an error message saying 'Property must contain a Type Property Loss ' in my NIBRS Review?

If you receive an error message of 'Property must contain a Type Property Loss = "5" or "7" if any of the UCR Offense Codes is in 23A, 23B, 23C, 23D, 23E, 23F, 23G, 23H and offense is completed'

The user will first need to go to the Offense Segment of the NIBRS Review receiving this error.  On the Offense Segment(s), you will need to click on the offense, and verify your UCR Offense Code listed is correct. The code should match the error message provided. A valid code based on the error would be 23A, 23B, 23C, 23D, 23E, 23F, 23G, or 23H depending on your state.

If you do not have an UCR Offense code in the drop down box, please select one from the table provided above.

After confirming this UCR Code in the error message you will then need to click on the 'Property' tab to confirm the 'Type Property Loss' is set to be a "5" or "7".  If you set the property to recovered you will need to add the recovered property.

In the example provided the 'Type Property Loss' needs to be either 'Recovered' or 'Stolen'. We received the error message because 'Type Property Loss' was set as burned and it needs to be changed to 5 or 7.

Once these two steps have been verified and saved you will be able to click on 'Validate all' to see if the error message has been resolved. Proceed to finish the review as needed.
