Assigning a Handling Detective and Sharing Informants
1. By default, the person creating the confidential informant record will be listed as the handling detective. The handling detective field can be used to assign ownership of the informant and is directly linked to the visibility of the confidential informant for other detectives.
!Did You Know?
Personnel displayed in the Handling Detective field are controlled by the Security module. Any personnel using CI Management should be part of the Criminal Investigators security group as well as one of the four main groups. The Criminal Investigators group also needs “Granted” access to the CIMGMT right from the Security module.
2. Visibility of a confidential informant can be limited to certain personnel inside of the CI Management module. To grant or deny visibility, select “Share” from the Informant drop-down list.
3. Select only those officers’ names with whom you wish to share the confidential informant (a), and then click the “Save” button (B).
*Tips:
If an officer is not selected as “Visible”, searching CI Management will return no record of that specific informant.
!Did You Know?
Any personnel within the security group of Administrators will have full visibility to all confidential informants in CI Management. These rights are inherited through the Administrators security group and cannot be taken away by marking the informant visible/invisible.
4. Examples of Informant Sharing:
4a. An administrator creates an informant record and is designated as the handling detective.
- The informant will be visible to all administrators. The administrator must choose to make the informant visible to other CI Management users.
4b. A non-administrator creates an informant record and is also designated as the handling detective.
- The informant will be visible to all administrators, and all other CI Management users. The non-administrator must choose which personnel to deny visibility.
