Why is ARMS Slow? Why are my users experiencing latency?
There are a few reasons why ARMS may be experiencing some latency. Below are some things to try to improve the speed of the ARMS application:
- Speak with the department’s ARMS administrator or IT department and make sure the network and the ARMS server are running properly.
- Check the amount of RAM on the database server. We recommend 8GB of RAM or more.
The formula we use is 1GB of RAM per year of data the department has, plus 0.5GB of RAM per CAD workstation.
So, for a department with 10 years of ARMS data and 4 CAD workstations
(1GB x 10 years + 0.5GB x4 CAD workstations) we would recommend 12GB of RAM for their database server.
- Check the amount of Hard Drive space on the database and/or media server. We recommend 250GB of hard drive space, which would give enough space for most departments to store all of their records and media.
- In Windows Task Manager on the database server, go to Performance > Resource Monitor > Memory tab and locate the "Ssms.exe" Image name. If the memory in use is very close to the memory available, then the server will need to have more RAM installed.
- Restart the ARMS Remoting Server (ARMS V3 Service if applicable) service on the ARMS server. Be aware that doing this will cause the ARMS application to go down for the duration of how long the department leaves it off. We recommend turning off the service for 10 seconds, then turning it back on.
- Run any Windows updates on the server. This usually requires a restart of the server, so be aware that the ARMS application will be down during the duration of the restart.
